These conditions on this page shall be deemed invalid, if they been outdated by new updates, although every reasonable effort is made to present current and accurate information, we make no guarantees of any kind.
Bookings can be made thru our direct booking widget found on our website or can be made in writing to either of our locations or by phone. If booking by email, please include all necessary details for us to ensure maximum efficiency. We will confirm your booking within one business day.
For group bookings, we require a minimum 4 weeks advance notice, prior to arrival and a confirmed name list must be sent by this date.
Terms of payment:
Individual policy: The Salty Pelican yoga and surf retreat reserves the right to charge 50% deposit to secure all bookings. The remaining balance will be payable upon check-in with either cash or credit. Please note all credit/debit card payments incur a surcharge fee of 3%. There is an ATM just 500m away from The Salty Pelican.
Group policy (10+): We reserve the right to charge a 50% deposit at the time of booking to confirm the reservation. Full payment must be paid at least 4 weeks prior to arrival, or upon confirmation if booked within 4 weeks of arrival. In the circumstances that a payment is delayed, The Salty Pelican hostel reserves the right to cancel the booking and withdraw its confirmation of the booking.
We accept cash and most credit cards!. Cash is preferably accepted at check-in for the remaining balance, as here is a 3% surcharge for all credit card transactions. Cheques are not accepted!
The following cancellation and modification fees apply:
COVID-19) For All Reservations confirmed on the 30th May 2020 or later: Any bookings cancelled within 10 days of your check-in date due to covid-19 related travel disruptions or restrictions, your 50% deposit will be issued as a redeemable voucher equal to the total deposit amount instead of the usual 100% penalty fee. This voucher can be redeemed anytime within 15 months of the original booked dates. Cancelling anytime up until 10 days of your check-in date , the deposit is still fully refundable minus the usual cancellation transaction fees. We hope this flexibility helps you feel more confident when booking during these uncertain times.
1) All Reservations are confirmed with a 50% deposit charged to the supplied valid credit card details or via PayPal deposit.
2) The 50% deposit is fully refundable up until 10 days (240 hrs) of your planned arrival. After this time has expired, deposit is non-refundable. (*Please refer to amended Covid-19 terms above)
3) In addition to the sums detailed in condition 2), the Seller shall be entitled to retain any charges incurred in relation to any refund.
4) Changing the arrival/departure date ( maximum +/- 3 days only ) within 10 days of arrival: 100% value of the first night of your reservation will be charged as a fee.
5) In the event of a “No-Show“ the remainder of your reservation will be cancelled automatically and the FULL amount for the booking will be charged to your credit card.
6) There are no refunds offered when requesting an earlier check-out date after you have already checked-in.
7) There are no refunds on any unused activities that are included in your package. Injury or sickness are the responsibility of each guest which can be handled with good travel insurance.
We cannot accept any liability where the booking could not be fulfilled due to circumstances which we could not, even with due care, have foreseen or avoided. Such events may include, but are not limited to, war, threat of war, civil commotion or strife, hostilities, natural disaster, fire, act of god, terrorist activities, technical problems with transportation, flight cancellations, closures of airports, ports and/or ferries, quarantine, epidemics, weather conditions, government action or other events outside our control.
The Salty Pelican yoga and surf retreat reserves the right to modify its rates for economic purposes, such as fluctuations in currency, inflation, or an increase in supplier costs. Any changes in rates will not affect bookings that have already been confirmed by The Salty Pelican. In the event that The Salty Pelican retreat, under exceptional circumstances, is unable to provide the guest with the agreed rooms on arrival, The Salty Pelican will provide a room of equal or superior quality at no extra charge. This shall be done with the permission of the guest.
The city tourism tax is not included in your final bed price for all bookings at our property in Cascais, Portugal. The price is €2 p.p. per night, up to 7-nights maximum.
Check-in / Check-out
Earliest check-in time: 2:00 pm
Latest check-out time: 11:00 am
** Please note check-ins are not accepted after 22:00 without prior notice either by email or phone call. ( Reception closes at 22:00 )
Upon check-in guests will receive a room key card or wrist band for access to both the retreat and their room. Key cards and wrist bands must be handed back to reception on check-out. Failure to return the key or bands, will result in a €5 charge added to your final invoice.
Guests may use secure lockers, however it remains the guest's responsibility to ensure that their personal belongings are secure at all times. The Salty Pelican yoga retreat accepts no liability for the loss, theft or damage to property however sustained or caused.
Bookings usually cannot be accepted from any person under the age of 16. However, under special request we may be able to accommodate children depending on the season and our retreats occupancy. Children under 16 may only sleep in the same room as the parent and can only be in private room accommodation.
Due to unfavourable weather conditions, or any other reason, The Salty Pelican or the yoga teachers may reschedule or cancel any yoga lesson without giving advance notice to the buyer. The Salty Pelican and the staff reserve the right to photograph/videography our guests during the yoga lessons. By taking part in a class and/or being at the location, the buyer gives their full consent to such photographs/videos being taken. The buyer agrees that The Salty Pelican may use such photographs/videos for commercial, publicity and advertising purposes. The buyer acknowledges that they have no right to any payment or fees in respect of any photographs/videos sold.
Due to safety concerns, unfavourable weather conditions, or any other reason, The Salty Pelican or the surf school may reschedule or cancel any surf lesson without giving advance notice to the buyer. Where lessons are cancelled due to adverse weather conditions or for safety reasons at the sole discretion of the surf school, the buyer shall not be entitled to a refund for the cost of the lesson, however The Salty Pelican will use reasonable endeavours to provide theory lessons and/or other activities at the location in substitution for the cancelled lesson(s). The Salty Pelican and the staff reserve the right to photograph/videography our guests during the surf lessons. By taking part in a lesson and/or being at the location, the buyer gives their full consent to such photographs/videos being taken. The buyer agrees that The Salty Pelican may use such photographs/videos for commercial, publicity and advertising purposes. The buyer acknowledges that they have no right to any payment or fees in respect of any photographs/videos sold.
The Salty Pelican will provide surf equipment at its Sri Lanka retreat only (Portugal N/A) to use without charge for all guests who have booked that option to be included within their all-inclusive package. Surf equipment is provided at additional charges for guests who have only booked bed and breakfast rates. If the buyer wishes to use the surf equipment, they must provide The Salty Pelican and/or the staff with a signed personal waiver form available from reception declaring they have understood the terms of rental, damage and personal liability. The Equipment must be returned in the same condition it was when the buyer received it and to the satisfaction of The Salty Pelican management and/or the staff. Where the management and/or the staff are unsatisfied with the condition of the returned surf equipment by the buyer, the buyer shall on request and in any event before their check-out date be deemed responsible for the cost incurred for any necessary repairs. The Salty Pelican may charge the supplied credit card provided any monies owed by the buyer in ration to damage or theft of surf equipment. The Salty Pelican and/or the staff shall accept no responsibility for loss, damage or harm caused to the buyer, other persons, any property or the like as a result of the buyer’s use of the equipment and/or personal Items, unless such loss, damage or harm was caused by the negligence of the The Salty Pelican and/or the staff. The Salty Pelican and/or the staff shall accept no liability for the loss, damage or theft of any Personal Items.
The comfort, safety and security of our guests is of paramount importance to The Salty Pelican Surf retreat. Any guest(s) who, in the opinion of our staff, compromise the comfort, safety or security of other guests or any staff - will be requested to leave the retreat premises and will not be offered a refund. Guests are expected to respect other guests, staff and property. In the case of groups, the group leaders must ensure that all members of their group behave in an acceptable manner and follow local laws. Failure of any individual group member to do so will result in the expulsion of the whole group and loss of deposits.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside our building, bedrooms or shared rooms. We do however provide our guests with the exclusive use of our outdoor areas, garden and balconies, where smoking is permitted and ash trays are provided. Any guest found smoking within the building or common inside lounge areas will be asked to leave the premises immediately and will not be offered a refund.
We love pets, but due to the communal atmosphere they cannot be allowed at our retreat.
All bookings are subject to availability and The Salty Pelican Yoga & Surf Retreat reserves the right to decline or cancel any booking at its discretion.
